Norwich Airport (IATA: NWI, ICAO: EGSH) is the airport for Norwich and the surrounding county of Norfolk. It is on the northern edge of the city, about 3 miles (5 km) north of the city centre, on the site of the former RAF Horsham St Faith. The airport estimates that around 1.5 million people live within a 90-minute drive.

UK Civil Aviation Authority figures show that Norwich handled 446,052 terminal passengers in 2025. Alongside scheduled and holiday flights, the airport supports helicopter and charter traffic serving offshore gas platforms in the North Sea, as well as corporate aviation. It is also an aircraft maintenance base: KLM UK Engineering opened a hangar and workshop at the airport in 2021, and an engine test facility opened in 2016.

Norwich Airport Limited operates the airport as part of Regional & City Airports (RCA), which also runs Bournemouth and Exeter airports. Investment firm ICG acquired RCA from Rigby Group in 2025. The airport has one passenger terminal and one operational runway, 09/27, which is 1,841 metres long.

How to get to Norwich Airport

By bus and coach

Two bus services leave from the stop directly outside the terminal:

• PR1 Airport Park and Ride, operated by First Bus with fully electric buses, runs direct to Norwich city centre seven days a week, including bank holidays, up to every 14 minutes during the day. Tickets can be bought in advance on the First Bus app or on board by cash or contactless card.
• Canary Konect route 35 serves Norwich city centre and Norwich railway station, running up to every 60 minutes, seven days a week.

Other local buses stop on Cromer Road near Tesco Express, about an 8-minute walk from the terminal.

By train

Norwich has no rail link to the airport. The nearest station is Norwich railway station in the city centre, about 20 minutes away by taxi, and the Canary Konect route 35 bus connects the station with the terminal.

By road

The airport lies just off Cromer Road on the north side of Norwich, and the postcode for sat nav is NR6 6JA. Parking is available on site in Car Park 1 (Short Stay) and Car Park 2 (Long Stay), both a short walk from the terminal and both accredited under the police Park Mark scheme. The airport's car parks became cashless from 1 January 2026. A drop-off area for cars and taxis is inside Car Park 1. A2B Taxis is the airport's official taxi firm, with a booking office in the terminal.

Terminal and facilities

The single terminal offers:

• Executive Lounge, with views over the airfield, snacks and unlimited hot and soft drinks. It can be booked in advance and also admits holders of cards including Priority Pass, LoungeKey and DragonPass.
• Fast Track Security, which can be booked before travel
• Assisted travel for passengers who need extra help, with a dedicated special assistance phone line and email listed on the contact page
• Shops and places to eat

The contact page also gives separate numbers for missing baggage, lost property and noise complaints, and an online feedback form for other enquiries.

Airlines and destinations

Four airlines currently operate passenger flights from Norwich:

• KLM flies to Amsterdam, where passengers can connect to KLM's worldwide network.
• Loganair flies to Aberdeen, with seasonal flights to Jersey.
• Ryanair, which began flying from Norwich in 2024, serves destinations including Alicante, Faro and Malta.
• TUI offers holiday flights to places such as Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Tenerife, Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Paphos and Dalaman, mostly in summer.

The airport also promotes Lapland day trips and short breaks in winter. Schedules change from season to season, so passengers should check current timetables with the airline.

History

Norwich's first airport opened in 1933 on Mousehold Heath. The present site began as RAF Horsham St Faith, a bomber station that officially opened on 1 June 1940. The RAF left in 1967, and Norfolk County Council and Norwich City Council bought the site to develop a new civil airport there.

The airport became a limited company in 1987. Rigby Group acquired it in 2014, and it became part of Rigby's Regional & City Airports business. Ryanair started operating from Norwich in 2024, and in 2025 ICG agreed to acquire Regional & City Airports, including Norwich, after 12 years of Rigby Group ownership.
