About Dundee Airport

Dundee Airport is a small regional airport on the north shore of the Firth of Tay, about 2 miles (3 km) from Dundee city centre, with views over the river and the Tay bridges. It is used by business travellers and by visitors to the city, and it also handles general aviation.

The airport belongs to Dundee City Council. Since 2007 it has been managed by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL), which also runs airports including Inverness, Kirkwall and Sumburgh. Dundee has one terminal and a single runway, 09/27, which is 1,400 metres long with a grooved asphalt surface.

UK Civil Aviation Authority figures show 28,007 terminal passengers in 2025, down from 30,355 in 2024. In August 2026 Loganair, the only airline at Dundee, announced that it would end all of its services from the airport on 23 October 2026. Unless another operator steps in, the airport will then have no scheduled flights.

How to get to Dundee Airport

By road

The airport is on Riverside Drive (postcode DD2 1UH), about five minutes by car from the city centre. The short stay car park is directly in front of the terminal. Stays there are limited to two hours, and you pay on return. There are two long stay car parks on the left as you turn in from Riverside Drive, and you pay by card or contactless on the way out. Blue Badge holders can use accessible bays in the short stay car park and should take their badge to the information desk to have it validated.

There is a taxi rank outside the terminal. The airport recommends booking a taxi in advance, especially for evening flights. Local firms include Tele Taxis, Dundee City Taxis, City Cabs and Etaxi.

By bus and coach

No public transport runs to the terminal itself. The nearest bus is a Stagecoach service into the city centre from Perth Road, about a 20-minute walk away. Walking to the city centre along the waterfront takes around 30 minutes.

By train

Dundee railway station is in the city centre and has direct trains to Aberdeen, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Terminal and facilities

Dundee's terminal is small, with check-in and security screening. It opens at these times:

• Monday to Friday: 05:30 to 21:00
• Saturday: 08:30 to 14:30
• Sunday: 09:00 to 21:00

Passengers who need help because of a disability or reduced mobility should arrange it in advance with their airline. Airlines and destinations

Loganair is the only scheduled airline at Dundee. Its main route is to London Heathrow, which runs under a public service obligation, a government-supported contract that keeps the route operating. Loganair also flies from Dundee to Kirkwall in Orkney and Sumburgh in Shetland.

In August 2026 Loganair said the London contract had become financially unsustainable and that it would close its Dundee base. The last flights to London Heathrow, Kirkwall and Sumburgh are scheduled for 23 October 2026. No replacement airline had been announced as of September 2026. Travellers with bookings should check with Loganair. For scheduled flights after October, the nearest options are Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports, and Ember runs coaches between Dundee and Edinburgh Airport.

History

Dundee Airport opened in 1963 on land reclaimed from the Firth of Tay, which makes it one of the youngest airports in the HIAL group. At first it had a 900-metre grass runway. In the 1970s this was replaced by an 1,100-metre tarmac runway, which was extended to 1,400 metres in the 1990s. Glasgow was the first scheduled destination, and routes to Edinburgh and Prestwick followed.

Dundee has had flights over the years to Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Belfast, Birmingham, Carlisle, Esbjerg, Manchester and London. The current terminal was opened in 1997 by Neil Kinnock, who was then the European transport commissioner. Better runway lighting and customs status came later. Since HIAL took over management in 2007, security has been upgraded and the runway has been resurfaced.
